CIVIC ENGAGEMENT ON THE 606

Civic Engagement is the ETHOS for The 606. This ethos was enacted daily during the design process and also built into the facilities, to afford opportunities for civic, cultural, and place-based public engagements all along The 606.

These on-going activities are another reflection of Whitehead's committment to the grassroots vision for the project, that The 606 be a Living Work of Art. Begun as a neighborhood initiative, this imaginative task involves the participation of diverse community members, public and private agencies, and a wide array of “creatives” of all types.

As Lead Artist for
The 606, Whitehead identified opportunities for civic and cultural engagement.

As Lead Artist for The 606, Whitehead has served as cultural interpreter of this grassroots vision, helping to identify opportunities for civic and cultural engagement all along The 606.
